James McDemas has studied and carried his art into multiple media. Furniture Design, Sculpture, Neon Art, Photography, Drawings, Assemblage, Ceramics and "Green" Landscape designs have allowed for a photo library of several hundred of his art creations. This is in addition to the complete architectural design of his studio and comprehensive collection of hundreds of vintage pieces from the 1900's to mid-century.

Lighting Designs
Lighting as art has been an ongoing interest for James. He assembled a fine collection of original "coffee shop" light fixtures for his studio. This protects the pieces for their historic values and provides contrast to his line of modern floor and table lamps.

Furnishing Designs
Using various metals combined with wood and glass has inspired a formidable variety of home and office furniture as usable art. The Ironing Board Chair is a clever example of transforming and renewing a recycled object into one-of-a-kind art.

Jade Horse
Restoration
An antique jade horse from Italy was damaged in transit. James bonded the hooves to the base and designed a bronze cradle to support the artwork.
A bronze base provides stability for the marble platform. This successful design alteration increased the value of the beautiful sculpture.

Metalwork Designs
ALTERED WHEEL 1991 - 1992
Mixed Media, Concrete Wood Iron
39" x 14 1/2" x 30"
This sculpture was created using natural found materials. The bag of concrete and the wood were discards from a building project.
A circular frame was made to house and set the concrete form.
Spikes found near the Los Angeles rail yards were hammered at different depths into the inner rim of the wheel. Melodic bell tones can be heard by tapping the spikes transforming the art piece into a musical instrument.

Vessel
1997
This indoor floor sculpture is composed of plaster and steel.
It measures 22” x 14” x 54” weighing approximately 160 pounds.
Solid white plaster is encased within the steel frame. Over time, the plaster edges against the steel will gradually acquire a light pigment of rust as would a vessel at sea.
The sculpture is a tribute and reminder that, as passengers through life, we gain knowledge and enlightenment through art.
